Dental health is of paramount importance. Taking care of your teeth and gums is an important step towards your well-being. Keeping cavities, infections, and oral issues at bay not only allows you to enjoy your favorite foods and drinks but also ensures that you lead a healthy life in the long run.

While going to the dentist for a regular check-up is important. It is also pertinent that you introduce a dental hygiene routine to follow at home. Don’t worry! It does not have to be a long-drawn and complex process. In a few simple, easy-to-follow steps you can have an effective dental routine at your fingertips.

Here are a few practices you can follow for good dental health and include in your daily routine:

  1. Brushing: Already a part of nearly everyone’s routine, it is recommended that you brush your teeth twice – once during the day and once at night. Please make sure that you do not eat anything after brushing your teeth at night. We also recommend you use a fluoride toothpaste. After you brush, spit out, but do not rinse your mouth so that the fluoride stays in your mouth for longer.
  2. Flossing – Cleaning between the teeth is as important as brushing, hence, we recommend that you floss everyday after brushing your teeth at night. It removes all the plaque and food stuck between your teeth, thereby, deep cleaning your teeth.
  3. Clean your tongue – We associate dental health with teeth and gums, but they only make a part of your oral hygiene. Make sure that you clean your tongue thoroughly either with a tongue cleaner or your toothbrush to get rid of left-over food which breed germs in your mouth.
  4. Healthy eating habits – Like for the rest of our body, eating healthy is important for our oral hygiene and health as well. Excessive sugary food, carbonated drinks, and smoking can cause havoc in your mouth. Make sure that you include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.

While the above stated practices are standard and well known, we recommend that before you develop a dental care routine, do evaluate your own needs. For example, if teeth staining is an issue you face, customize your routine to address that need. It is highly advisable to prepare a dental care routine in consultation with your dentist.

Last but not the least, do not undermine the visits to your dentist if you follow a dental care routine at home. It is important that you regularly go for check up and visits so that the dentist can advise changes required to your routine, if any. Moreover, a check up will bring to light any issues which need immediate attention.
